First F up of the summer brewing season

Sat Jun 07, 2008 7:03 am

Last night I checked my beer which was fermenting in my dorm fridge and upon shutting the door I must have snagged the cable for the temp control because when I checked it this morning the temp control was sitting on the ground. Needless to say the fridge was at about 40F or so.

I am not sure if it even started fermenting as this happened about 8 hours after I pitched. Is this going to affect the yeast viability? Should I add oxygen again?

At the lower temperature the O2 should have stayed in solution pretty good so I wouldn't mess with giving it any more. The only thing I would do is swirl it around a little to rouse the yeast that may have settled out due to the cold and then let it warm back up to the mid 60's.

I second what bug said, let it slowly rise up and when its about at pitching temp rouse those puppies up and they should get going.
