After listening to the shows, I decided to "step up my brerwing" with a homemade stir plate, and a starter. The stir plate is giving me some issues...as I can't slow the fan down as much as I'd like....however, it seemed to work....
I brewed yesterday, pitched my 2 liter starter, and it took off...so much in fact that this morning I was greeted by a fermentation bucket that had its lid blown off, and sticky krausen everywhere....
As I was late for work, I moved the bucket to the bathtub, gently replaced the lid, and left the airlock out, so it wouldn't plug up again. 5 minutes later, I had bubbles coming up though the hole for the airlock, and creeping all over the lid and down the sides of the bucket.
So, is my beer doomed? Do I need to get it into a new sanitized container? Is this typical with using a starter? Any cheap alternatives for a larger fermentation vessel? I was thinking I should drill out the hole on the lid, and start using a 1" tube for a blowoff tube....
Any thoughts, comments, or advice would be appreciated.
