I'm in! AND +1 for an american brown ale!! I've been meaning to try brewing Tasty's recipe. This will give me a good reason to do it!

tastys recipe is also on brew dejour for people that don't have the book.http://www.beerdujour.com/JamilsBrewing ... ecipes.htm. It is a pretty hoppy beer so hops may be a problem.
on tap: horse feed oatmeal stout, brown porter, honey pale.

In Reserve: oaked imperial amber, dopplebock, imperial IPA,baltic porter.

In fermentors: Imperial stout, APA, brown porter, american brown ale, belgian pale.

Uh, yeah.... over a pound of hops for a 12 gal... This recipie might be the reason for the hop shortage...

How about Jamil's American Brown #1 on beerdujour?

This sounds like a great idea... I'm thinkin' you should count me in. My wife would love the brown and I've never made a Scottish, so I'm up for either one. Just let me know what I need and when I need it by.

Prost!

Good point about the hops. Here's JZ's Brown Ale recipe #1 from beerdujour. Looks pretty good to me:

I'm partial to Scottish Ales... I find them DELICIOUS.

But I'm down for whatever. American Brown works for me. The less hops the better since I already have to search the back of the cooler at the LHBS for the right stuff.

Just another idea, BDawg's kit idea got me thinking.

If we couldn't get a place like B3 to make a kit, we could pick a kit from an online store. For example, NB list the ingredients/amounts on their kits and usually have an extract and all-grain version of each one.

This way we would have a set ingredient standard of type and amounts (extract/grain, hop and yeast). How you make the recipe would then be up to you. This way if you have the ingredients or can easily pick up what you are missing, you can. Or you could order the kit and have everything. It would also make sure all the ingredients could be found (if they have ingredients for the kit, they have the ingredients for sale).

The hop situation is also a problem. I would love to do JZ's Brown but the Amarillo alone will run me just under $25. Maybe coming up with extract/grain and yeast restrictions but leaving the hop bill open (still having an IBU range limit) could help.

Well, Thirsty, let's get a Scottish recipie out here, and have a no-pants poll, shall we? I think we have an American Brown contender.
