Suggestions????

Sat Jun 16, 2007 12:17 pm

I'm down to my last 5g of beer and want to brew tomorrow (being fathers day and all)... but I'm not sure what to do next.. I don't have a starter prepared so I'd probably pitch 4 vials for 10g??

So far this year I've done 2 kolelsch's, 2 summer bitters, and 2 Alts.

I'm thinking Hef or American Wit and found this recipe and would like any opinions and/or tweeks (I've never done a wheat beer before)...

Looks pretty good... things I would change, if it were me.
1. change the yeast to Wyeast 3068 (sooo much better)
2. change the hops to Hallertau, Tettang is fine Hallertau is more traditional.
3. Up the wheat percentage to 60%
4. Carapils take it or leave it.

Thanks Bub!

I've taken your suggestions and adjusted as follows:

7.5 lbs American 2Row (39%)
10.75 lbs Midwest Wheat (56%)
1 lb carapils (5%)
1.25 oz Hallertau @60mins (10.5 IBU)

and am going to pick up the Wyeast 3068...

Hopefully I'll be done by showtime tonight :)

BigDog, we seem to be on the same wavelength. Thanks to a conversation with Krotchrott last week I'm brewing a hefeweissen myself today. Mine is even simpler than yours.

5.5 gallon batch

5.5 # Wheat malt
5.5# Maris Otter

mash 60 min @ 154°

1.1 oz hallertauer (3.9%) 60 minutes - 17 IBU

After fermentation is complete I will add three or four pints of strawberries that have been frozen and stick the whole thing in the fridge so fermentation doesn't restart.

Thanks Krotch!
