Those days you knew you just shouldn't brew

Sat Mar 09, 2013 10:01 am

Fuck. Just fuck. Finally got moved on from a bitch of a brew day, started the chiller & went to get a few other things done. 15 minutes later I walk back to find the wort just pouring over the sides of the kettle... & several SRM lighter.

What a nightmare! Did the chiller freeze with water in it or something?

It was fine when it went into the boil. It was drained, cleaned & stored like every single other time for the past 5 years. Not a clue.

Hang in there...at least you get to go brewery shopping. Is it possible that air was trapped in there without being able to escape? Maybe when it hit the boil, it heated the air up and pressurized it so much that it blew out the tubes. It looks like something blew it out from the inside.

That sucks! Luckily copper isn't as expensive as it was a couple years ago and the price is dropping.
