That would be my interpretation of it. It says we can't alter the RECIPE, says nothing about our procedures. What if someone oxygenated? Or fermented warmer or colder than called for in the instructions? Or god forbid left it on the yeast for 3 weeks instead of 2? I think a common sense application of the brewers code is all that's required here.
Now with all that said... This was a pricey kit and I'm sure that a bunch of folks (myself included) bought it just to enter the comp. They were slow to put out the rules, never really made them clear and If I were to be DQ'd over some nitpicky bullshit it would be a long time before the BN saw any of my money again.
All the same, I plan to enclose bribe bottles with my comp submission.
