Mobile Beer Apps

Mon Oct 22, 2012 7:33 am

Heya,

I was curious if anyone else uses mobile social beer apps to track what they have drank and keep a list of what to try?

I use both Untappd and Pintley and both work great. I was wondering who else uses these apps and if you want, you can add me as a friend.

Untappd - brandon24
Pintley - brandon_oh

Im still unsure which app is better so for now I have been using both.

I just contacted Untappd support and asked if they planned on adding a feature that would let you export your drinking data to a csv or xls. Indeed, it is on the map and coming soon. Beer nerds rejoice to know you will be able to spreadsheet your beer consumption!

You can do this already from the web site. It's kinda cool to look at the list. But don't show it to your liver.

Really, I will have to look into that. Perhaps they thought I was asking about the mobile option.

I sense some great drinking charts and stats showing beers per hour averages broken down by styles coming soon!

I've been using Beer Buddy just to track what I've had. It uses Rate Beer's database for beer searches/ratings & info. You don't need a Rate Beer account to get beer data, but you can link up an account if you want to write mobile reviews and have them upload. It's search tool is very quick and handy when trying to decide on the next purchase at the bottle shop.

It's not really a social app, but then again I'm not really interested in sharing my alcohol consumption details. The tasting notes and rate beer info notes are for my benefit only. I'm not interested in turning my enjoyment of beer into a competition.

I agree totally. The only reason I use them is to track what I have had and what I want to try. I too an not really keen on publishing my drinking habits to Facebook/Twitter or to the local app community. I would check out beer buddy but its only for iphone :(

I tried Pintley when it came out and it didn't really fit me. I'm in a rural part of Michigan where there isn't a whole lot of craft beer selection (but good enough for the local beer geeks). The database is so inclusive there's no practical way I could obtain similar beers to my favorites to try. They should have a location tether to their algorithm. It's great they found me a beer to try but I'm not going to drive a couple thousand miles to California just to try a beer.

I hope these types of apps evolve into being more practical.

If you take what I post here literally, you're retarded. I'm here to fuck around, have a good time, and learn about beer. You mean nothing to me and I mean nothing to you.
