Ok to use solidified honey?

Sun Aug 26, 2012 10:06 am

My local beekeeper has a 5 gallon pail of honey that he unfortunately left the top cracked open, and has solidified. I presume it would be fine to reconstitute it, which would require some heating (which I'd rather not do), but would there be any other negatives that might make it unwise to use for mead?

I would just warm it to the point where it liquified it, really doesn't take as much as you think. I wouldn't go more than 135F, you aren't going to pasteurize it. Just let it melt.

Fill up the tub with hot water & set the bucket in there. You might have to stir the bucket once in a while & maybe change out your hot water once, but it won't take too much.
