Starter for yeast 5526 (brett)

Hi All,

I am 2 weeks in to my Consecration clone and about about to rack my 2 week old beer beer that is now at 1.014 onto the currants and pitch Wyeast 5526 Brett.
Would I want to make a starter for this? I know a few of the funky strains suggest not to.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

the guy from the Crooked Stave show said to make a starter for "bugs" to wake them up and get them acclimated. It will take about 5 days to get them going. Good luck, Drew

Thank you. That is sort of what I suspected. Also no nutrient pack inside either. :oops:

With your extended aging time for this style of beer you do not NEED to make a brett starter. In fact, some say that smaller pitch rates of brett into secondary produce more interesting flavors/aromas as it makes the brett work harder (ie multiply and grow more). I have done many brett and sour beers, and if it were me, I would not make a starter unless you need to drink the beer in several mos time vs. letting the brett age gracefully in the beer.
