Home Brew Comp WTF!

Sun Feb 13, 2011 8:28 pm

I spent part of this evening sorting through entries for the Midwinter Home Brewing Competition. This is the fastest way to get your beer disqualified... Slip your bottle in to a dirty, stained, hole-ridden sock and then wrap it in a crappy T-shirt. Come on guys... really WTF? I guess I should be thankful that it wasn't a skid marked ratty old pair of underwear...

Is bubble wrap that expensive?

Good point. I am glad someone found some good in this. I let it in to the comp, but man I feel sorry for the judges that have to taste that beer.

Along the same lines as leaving ratty falling apart labels on reused bottles... if you can't care enough to make it look decent, I doubt you care enough to sanitize, etc properly...

And the sock was even vented to allow the beer to survive pressure changes!

I'll give the guy credit, his stuff came intact. I had one box last night, that had lots of bubble wrap, garbage bags, etc, and leaked all over the place because one of the crowns was loose.

It's fun sorting beers for a competition, isn't it? I tell you what...opening and sorting hundreds of beers sure changed my opinion about a lot of competition rules.
