I sanitize my O2 caps. Also, isn't the O2 caps more for long term aging?

Did JZ say why sanitizing breaks the 02 absorbing quality of these caps? It's the first I've heard of this and wondered why it happens. I've been using them for some time now on all my bottles as I am forced to store them at room temp.

I remember this conversation on one of the shows. The O2 absorbing caps are supposedly activated right when they get wet. No brewing germaphobe would put unsanitzed caps on this bottles, so this pretty much negates the purpose of them. This all depends on how long the caps actually absorb the O2. I've heard that once activated, they do thier thing in a matter of seconds and I've also heard that it takes a while. so /shrug

I use them anyway because I think they are higher quality construction then the non absorbing caps I've seen. And if they truly do take a bit to work, then it's a win/win. This makes me feel better, which I've found is the most important thing.
