I just want to know when the Ninkasi Award turned into the best meadmaker award.

edit: And let me be clear too that it wouldn't matter who it, thats not the issue. I just think meads and ciders should not count.

Speaking of the Ninkasi; do you think that a better tie breaker would be the ratio of total final round points to the number of first round entries?

Not that this happens all the time, but in my opinion this method would point to the brewer brewing the best beer and mead. Hell, Gordon may have won under this scenario also, I don't know.

Also, congrats to Gordon; he is definitely deserving of this award. I'm sure Jamil and Gordon both know that you have to hit a few medals in the mead categories to win the Ninkasi. But everyone has that opportunity, so bully for them.

It's a good thing that Justin is on the AHA board because at least he can see it coming if it comes. My hope is that anyone proposing to change the rules can explain why it was okay for the award to be won by multi-region clubs for a decade before anyone said anything.

I've been hearing this too, and I'd like to know exactly what these people would suggest for a rule change. Can I only be a member of a club in my city? Or in my MSA? Or my state? Where exactly do you draw the line? How do we determine what is 'local'?

Or can each club only have one non-local member...

I have a feeling that their are two clubs that think this is a good idea. :)

I don't want to stop the BN and I can't think of a rule to do it that is reasonable and wouldn't have resulted in QUAFF and SPHBC never winning (what a different decade that would have been, can you imagine if Jamil stayed in region and brewed for DOZE?). However I would bet a paycheck that some people take a shot at a rules change.

Either you completely redefine what homebrew club of the year means or we enter an era where there are a number of national clubs competing for the title.

One suggestion I have heard is that you have to enter in the region the club is located in, but I don't like the idea of entry regions not being based on the brewers location.

Currently a club can only earn 12 points per category in the first round (the same as if you got first second and third). A slightly stronger rule would only give points for a single first, single second and single third. For example first in english brown in two regions get you six points, not twelve as in the status quo. I don't think that is enough to stop the BN. Whoever put that rule in thinking that it would stop a national club didn't think things through. I think SPHBC lost a few points in mead since they dominate in the MW and Gordon dominates in the East by himself. BN lost slightly more points but not that many.

So what, Club of the year is for those who give two turds. What is a club anyhow? Isn't it a "place" where you can learn and about yourself and others? So what if it does not have borders. I say go BN!

Just remember, World peace is achieved when people stop identifing themselves from the land of which they live on.

Isn't the Ninkasi Award given to the best Zymurgist? In that case, Way to Go Gordon!

I don't think anyone here is bitching. Just warning that there are haterz and they will take action. Anyone who thinks the BN should be eligible for club of the year should be prepared to fight for it.

The BN is a club anyway you slice it. Weekly meetings (with better educational content than any other club), at least one annual physical meeting etc. I can't think of a function my club is serving that the BN isn't.
