I certainly am not claiming to have made the best beer in the world. Hell, for all I know, I forgot to sanitize the bottle before packaging the beer for the competition. I guess my beef is, there are really no comments on the stupid sheet!

I got a 17 (it was a 14 but was erased and raised) for my American Pale and they only wrote 28 words on the entire sheet (not counting the category name and their name). Not only that, they provided no contact information so I'm unable to follow up.

1.6 words for every point or $0.32 a word.

Sorry if I come across as a whiny little bitch, but I just had to share this so hopefully everyone here can get a good chuckle as well.

As bad as this beer apparently was, I was able to get one entry into the second round under the BN. There were quite a few other BNers who medaled in the Old West regional. Congrats to all you Texans who pretty much swept this region again this year.

Man I've gotten some score sheets that are bad. I'm also sure I've given some. I guess thats life... just remember that TX kicks ass... ok I know that was kicking you while down. I wouldn't doubt that you make awesome beer and I hope to see you are NHC.

I can now personally attest that mcstellar brewed an awesome APA. Either there was a bad bottle or a bad judge. Based on that scoresheet, I have my opinion.

I really wish for nationals at least that we could do without the non-BJCP trained. I had one scoresheet come back from a non-BJCP judge. The feedback was not very informative, and it seemed like he had very little understanding of the style. He also scored it much lower than the 2 trained judges. I guess I was OK with it though, because he was sitting with 2 trained judges.

To be fair though, I recently got back scoresheets from a retired pro brewer and BJCP certified judge who's comments were even more sparse than that. Literally many segments were left blank and only scored. It wasn't a BJCP sanctioned competition, just a local thing. There's really no excuse for that!

Got mine in the email this morning. No complaints to speak off. Most of the judges tried to give some good feedback. And no one accused me of trying to poison them. Still no note begging me to quit, though. . .

I find that the non-BJCP judges that are "pro-brewers" are the absolute WORST judges.

This is coming from someone who's never seen or entered a competition, but it seems like the biggest problem mentioned in this thread is time. You're going to get suspect scoresheets from novice judges regardless. If you have experienced judges, though, whose feedback is compromised purely because of not enough time, perhaps enough letters/emails to the BJCP board could help find a solution for the time issue.
