Update on breweries in Nebraska. Platte Valley Brewing in Kearney, Nebraska has ceased brewing. Some kind of problems with paperwork with the feds. Instead of going through all the time and expense to reapply for their licensing, they have decided to shut down brewing operations and just operate as a tap house. If anyone is interested, they do have their 30 bbl "frankenbrew" system for sale now. It's ugly but works great.
Another development worth mentioning is that a group of folks from our brew club here started brewing commercially a couple years ago, operating under the license of Thunderhead Brewing in Kearney, Nebraska. They marketed their stuff under the "Modern Monks" label. For a number of reasons, including having to make a 200 mile round trip commute each time they wanted to brew, they have cut that relationship with Thunderhead. They now have their own brewing license and have worked out a contract to take over the brewing operations in Lincoln from a restaurant/brewpub called Misty's. Misty's has great food, but their beer has really stunk (literally and figuratively

) for years. Under this arrangement, the Monks will brew and keep in stock four beers for Misty's to keep on tap. After those four, the Monk's then can use the equipment to brew whatever they want for marketing elsewhere. These guys brew great beers, so you should check out their stuff if you ever make it to Lincoln. The Modern Monks beers should be on tap in the next 2-3 weeks at Misty's and are already on tap at several other bars in Lincoln.
Their website hasn't been updated since all this took place but you can check them out at
