That does suck dude.....but like all others have said, it's one score sheet, one crappy non-judge..........keep on keeping on, and make some more kick assed beers. What did the National Judge say??? Did he at least have some constructive criticism?

Brew strong brotha!!!

Is it possible to pull the judges name from the thread? Not to be a dick, but I am not sure if that needs to be floating around the interwebs.

Hopefully they'll never let that person judge again.
Also, if there's a second score sheet for that beer (there should be), then email THAT person too.
THAT person should not have allowed this score sheet to go out.
This is not acceptable.

Or... Before we start pulling out our swords and chopping off hands, we could hope that the judge gets some more (any) training and has the opporunity to become a productive member of th BJCP if they so choose.

Sucks about the sheet though, sorry.

Yeah, I would suggest wording it along the lines of

"I was very dissapointed to find that the Novice Judge under your tutelage was allowed to submit such an uninformative score sheet. As an entrant, I look to the certified BJCP judges for useful information and to provide quality control and guidance for the non-certified judges. This is doubly true for the National and Master ranked judges."

I have to admit to a bad score sheet if you entered scotch ales in the west region.
About an hour into judging someone broke into our van and stole an x box. A friend had just given me one to fix. But none the less the driver side window was busted and I had to stop just after the first few smells of a category I dont brew or drink at all.
Now I do remember leaving more than one or two word comments.
I also recall tasting an old ale that had an unusual Cooked ham like aroma. Very strange but I try to call it like I see it. But as most judges know not every beer you try is going to be the best thing you taste or perhaps would want to taste again.
Id place more blame on the judging coordinator for not placing qualified judges in proper seats and trying not to rush or squeeze in as many flights in one days with limited help.

I certainly am not claiming to have made the best beer in the world. Hell, for all I know, I forgot to sanitize the bottle before packaging the beer for the competition. I guess my beef is, there are really no comments on the stupid sheet!

I've had infected bottles before (who hasn't) - going by the few words on that sheet it doesn't sound like an infected bottle .. the carbonation wasn't listed as abnormal "carbonation okay", it wasn't dried out "body ok"

For it to have a "sweaty aroma" the first thought is Brett. Since the rest of your beer was ok, this bottle would've had to have picked up the infection. The Brett is going to dry it out and at least increase the carbonation out of style for an APA, if not turn it into a gusher. A Brett infection in the bottle isn't going to cause 'sweaty aroma, carb ok, body ok' for an APA, it would be 'sweaty aroma, too dry/thin out of style, carbonation not to style (if not gusher)'. Other infections could cause a 'sweaty aroma' but again, since it would have to happen in that bottle, after bottling, and it's a closed system at that point, it's not going to happen without adding an excess amount of CO2 and most likely causing a gusher.

It's more likely (in my opinion) that the judge doesn't understand beer
