Harvesting yeast from Star-San

Sat Jul 18, 2009 5:47 am

I recently hooked up a blowoff tube to a Witbier that I am fermenting using a gallon water jug half full of Star-San.
It is full of yeast now and I am wondering if I could decant and harvest it.
Has anyone tried this?

cheers,
Brannon

The star San would kill the yeast wouldn't it?

Some StarSan gets in your beer, yeast is fine. Some yeast gets in your StarSan, yeast not fine. Especially for the extended period.

Ok that makes sense.
Every time that I rig a blowoff tube I get yeast and I wish that I had prepped for it.
Just wishful thinking. I'll think ahead next time.
Thanks for the replies.

Dude check this thread out (http://www.thebrewingnetwork.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=12393). Scott (I think?) has a great video of how to solve this problem you're havin'. I tip my hat to him for his ingenuity.
