Coopers Lager - is it real?

Fri Mar 27, 2009 7:50 am

I'm just starting out in this brewing business here.. and from what i've read, lagers need to be cold fermented.

Now.. i've been brewing a version of coopers lager, that's fermenting at room temperature.

Is this real lager, or am I brewing a lager extract with ale yeast? What would you really call the resultant product?

thanks!

Yeah, there's Lager- beers made from the bottom-fermenting yeast strains, and Lagering- the technique of cool fermentation and cold storage... most good Lagers use both... Coopers only uses the former.

Thanks Nate - Good info.

Has any successfully 'lagered' a coopers extract can lager recipe?
Is it worth the trouble?
