1.100 Barley Wine Pitching Rate

Tue Jan 20, 2009 7:48 am

I'm planning to brew Northern Brewer's Barley Wine kit. I'm going to scale it back to 4 gallons to get at 1.100 OG. I'm using safale us-05 yeast.

The Mr. Malty pitching rate calculator says 1.4 packs of 11.5 gram packets.

I don't really want to try and measure the yeast. I plan to either eyeball the 4/10ths of a pack or just pitch the whole second pack.

Would pitching two full 11.5 gram packets be a big issue?

Definately pitch both and rehydrate them prior to pitching
