Maibock Fermentation

Mon Jan 12, 2009 3:16 pm

I want to do a Maibock this weekend, which will be my first attempt at a lager beer. I have a separate room in my basement that will be good to keep it away from the cats that roam my house but the temp is 42 degrees. Does anyone use the brew belt heating elements? How much do they warm up the brew? I'm going to use WLP830 for yeast which has an optimum temp of 50-55 degrees. I asked the guy at the store how much the element would raise the temp and he didn't know.
Neuron_Theory was brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot.

I think they can add more than 15*. I know that a firmwrap can add at least 20*.

Wrap old blankets around the fermenter after you put the belt on... make sure you have some sort of temp control or you will get it too warm.

+1 to what bub sez, the belt is always on unless you have a temp controller.
