Looks like the average low temp for Flagstaff is anywhere from 2-12 degrees lower than Buffalo, NY. So if you got a REAL winter, then what's colder than that?![]()
Most people think the same thing though, AZ=Hot. But Flagstaff is in the mountains, 7,000+ feet elevation so it's cold, we've had 3 inches snow already this winter and frost since early September. Plus our crappy house is insulated like a shed so heating is very expensive (as is everything else here).
I certainly could open the door and try to heat the room, but I'd much rather just move the beer. I like the cold room in general because it makes it much easier to ferment other beers and lagers in the winter.

I got mine from Northern Brewer but it's a seasonal release from Wyeast, so it's only been available recently in the spring. I got mine last April.
So hopefully in the next few months it'll be available again.

But, if I were a cheap bastard, could I use an electric blanket, as long as I monitor the temperature regularly? Or is that too warm or unreliable?

What I do is take a heating pad and place it sandwiched between an old folded bath mat.
I then place the carby on top of the heating pad/bath mat configuration.
It heats from the bottom , and of course the heat will rise.
Use a low setting and monitor closely as we do not want SWMBO to worry about burning down the house.![]()
Just my $0.02 worth.
