US Open Beer Championship 2011

Wed Apr 20, 2011 8:34 am

DOZE homebrew club recently received an email invitation from Dow Scoggins, Director of the US Open Beer Championship: http://www.usopenbeer.com/

"All the 2010 Gold Medal Winners of the 2010 National Homebrewers Competition are invited to compete against professional brewers in the 2011 United States Open Beer Championship."

This seems like an interesting and unique opportunity for homebrew to compete directly with commercial beer in a competition. I don't know of any other competition that has combined entries like this. Looks like last year this competition received about 500 entries. I'm not sure if they have extended this invitation in years past to gold medal winners at the NHC, but if so, I'm interested to hear about homebrewers' experiences in entering this competition if they did?
Cheers! Kippis! Skål! Prost!

Nahthan,

BooBoo and I entered our English Brown last year and placed Third! Cool to compete against some of your favorite craft breweries. They said the results would be posted on July 4th, and they were posted on July 4th as mentioned. They only open this to NHC first place winners. It's a two beer entry and you are to enter the beer style that won in NHC. We only had an English Brown ready last summer (The Mild is what we won at NHC....don't tell them we changed the entry :drink ) We named the beer "Nutters" and they must have changed the beer name to "Mutter 5"

I think Jimmy V placed too...

Best of luck with the event.

Tom, congrats to you and booboo, that is awesome! Looking more closely at last year's results, I notice that there was a homebrew victory in the ESB category also. Pretty interesting having homebrew up against commercial beer in the same competition.
Cheers! Kippis! Skål! Prost!
