Our Homebrew club, PDXBrewers, has to stop bringing our homebrew for meeting tasters due to crap like this. I honestly do not know where all this is coming from. OLCC has some blame, as they are trying to stop the transportation of homebrewed beverages. Needs to stop - this is still a free country right?

Good news is that the AHA is already working via Denny and his merry band of brewers to get this corrected. Seems like everyone, including the OLCC, were surprised that the law was what it was. So now, we work to change the law.

And working to change the law starts with individuals writing their local representatives. If you live in Oregon, PLEASE take the time to write to your rep here: http://www.leg.state.or.us/writelegsltr/

Gonna steal the Ducks football team and the Beaver's baseball squad?

I hope they wrap this up prior to next years Sasquatch Brewfest.

State governments do screwy things when they run out of money, our beer taxes were raised again a few months ago and are among the highest in the nation - over 10 times greater than Oregon's - so watch out (Hawaii is $1.00 a gallon, Oregon was $0.08).

You can't have beer judges be drinking untaxed homebrew - probably another $500 the state of Oregon could collect if they crack down and eliminate that BJCP loophole. Sad, but I'm sure that is the root of this new crackdown.

Oregon has raised the personal income tax rate so high lately, many of the wealthy I suspect already have a second home (or moved completely) over to Washington State already. And they can now drive around WA with homebrew in the car!

During the boom tax collection years of 2006-2008 the states and feds still spent it a fast as they collected it.

Myself and several others from several brew clubs have been following this news here in Michigan. This could affect other state's competitions.
