2010 Longshot

Thu Apr 08, 2010 3:51 pm

So it appears all entries this year are to be "Category 23" or speciality beers. Submission Window is May 17th to May 28th 2010.

Kinda bummed because I had a beer that I wanted to submit that wouldn't exactly go in that category and I don't know if this leaves me enough time to get one going by the submission date.

Maybe I should enter my carrot cake beer. I would love to see how Jim Koch would handle doing a cereal mash on 50,000 pounds of shredded carrots.

do it bug....send in your oatmeal cookie beer too.

I know that at least the Grossman's of SN have a "money is no object" when doing these sort of things, I'm sure Jim Koch has the same philosophy. They want to see our creativity!

Wouldn't that fit under cat 21 A: spice,herb,vegetable?

They're really limiting things with this cat 23 only deal - no Belgian specialties (those are 16Es), no coffee beers (21As), and an entry window that really makes it hard to imperialize a style and get it in on time (big source of cat 23s)

ok, so I went through the Longshot rules, and it does include categories 20,21,22

so any fruit, smoked, wood aged, and spice/herb/vegetable beers can be entered as category 23

it's not really a category 23 only contest

chocolate oatmeal stout on cocoa nibs would def qualify
