Anyone tried the Long Hammer IPA by Red Hook? It just showed up in the store the last week, unless I'm blind! I don't thinks it's too bad. It's my first IPA I've ever had. This one has a nice grapefruit citrus aroma, and the bitterness I expected to hit me more. The beer is pretty cloudy. There is stuff in suspension at the bottom. I love the bottle caps, it has a silhouette of a dude with a sledge hammer on it that is black and the rest of the cap in green. I'll look around and see what's up with it, but it isn't bad.

I just checked out the http://www.redhook.com site and found the info on it. They list the malts, hops, and description. I think that's great of them to do.

I've had the Red Hook Longhammer a few times, and I thin kit's pretty good. My buddy in Phoenix had a keg of it when I was visiting. I thought it was better from the tap, but then isn't that always the case?

It's been a little while since I tried it, and it was only once, but I wasn't terribly fond of it. For American IPA I was a little disappointed by the hop presence. Expected a little more. Then again if it was my first ever IPA it might have been a good way to ease into the style. Like an old man eases into a warm bath. TBN actually turned me on to one of the best IPAs I've still ever had. After listening to the Clipper City show I went out and picked up Loose Cannon Hop Cubed IPA. Now one of my favs.

I just finished my last bottle tonight. I would love to try a really hopped up beer. From what I saw at the store this was my best bet I thought. If anyone has some ideas of a great hopped up beer, pop it to me.

A good friend of mine recently called me and told me he bought a sixer of this and loved it. This guy is also that guy we all know who would cut you if you didn't like Miller. I've been working on converting him and the rest of my friends to craft brew. I've never had this, but it seems to be a good gateway drug...I mean beer to the world of craft beer. So it gets my vote for a good beer!

Longhammer is a tolerable example of a west coast IPA but there are certainly many better ones. Almost all of them, really.
