American Dubbel

Fri Jun 03, 2011 3:29 pm

What about American hops in a Dubbel? Thinking about Captain Lawerence Tripel themed Dubbel? Am I nuts? Maybe just some Liberty and play it safe? How about dry-hopped with citra?

Just thinking and planning to brew Sunday

It's called Monk's Blood, it is brewed by 21A :D Although it probably borders on a Belgian dark strong ale...

But, all kidding aside. Go for it! I bet it turns out unique and tasty! Keep us in the loop.

why the f**k not. I say go for it. I enjoy traditional flavor profiles but every once in a while you gotta do something different. If you do 10 g batches you could split it and dry hop with different varieties.
On Deck: Bier de Garde, Northern German Pils
In Fermenters: Homegrown Pale Ale
in keg: Octoberweizen, Dusseldorf Alt

THANKS! I know it sounds nuts, but I was thinking of clean bittering addition, along with Centennial, Amarillo and maybe some Citra for this beer. I had not looked at the Monks Blood stats before (not have I tasted it...not available in IL). I have two 1.7L starters of WLP530 spinning now and think I will press ahead.

More to follow....

Definitely keep us posted. I'm very curious. My gut tells me to truly get a phenomenal combination of belgian yeast character and american hops... it'll take plenty of trials (I personally don't like the mish mash of Belgian-IPA's and the like... but every once in a while there is one that is fantastic... and I think it's just because there was more care in working those ingredients together).

Please share your experiences, good or bad, so we can see whatca got!

I really like your tact of hitting it hard in a Dubbel as well.

Cheers,
:jnj

Will do....my Captain Lawerence American Tripel was amazing so I want to try a Dubbel. I think the solution will be huge aroma and moderate flavor and not too bitter.

We'll see...recipe is written and I Am looking good to brew tomorrow.
