Per How to Brew by John Palmer you need at least one gallon of maple syrup to have the flavour carry over into the beer. I have done 8 ounces to prime with and lost all maple flavour in the beer.

The most maple flavored beer I've ever had had no maple syrup. Just Candy Cap mushrooms.
Tasty

Fenugreek seeds are supposed to convey a strong maple impression, so much so that it's used in artificial maple syrup. It's mentioned in a few places in Radical Brewing.

I wonder if the heavier B grade syrup would leave more residual flavour.

It certainly works that way with Acerglyn (mead with Maple Syrup). Lower percentage of fermentables = more stuff left in the brew.

I've tasted a maple beer that had very little maple syrup but used fenugreek seeds. Can't remember the quantities though. It had a great taste of maple without being overdone.

i made a maple wheat and it was awesome. i got 2 of those jugs from costco. I cant recall exactly how much it was but 2 of the small jugs. It gave it a awesome maple flavor. Everyone said it reminded them of breakfast.
