I'm pretty sure that's the exact same thing that Northern brewer packages into the syringes. They wouldn't divulge their supplier to me, but I've done some research on this. Pretty close to 100% sure that it's what Vinnie and Lagunitas use in their imperial IPA's.

That's a good point. Having never used hop shot, I wouldn't have thought of that.

Either way, I'm fairly certain that they both use high-alpha/cohumulone american hops as a base, as isohop has a fairly rough bitterness.

Where were you guys able to find the Crystal 45? Is it under another name? I looked for it at my local shop and have not found it there or many of the online big boys.

I am sure the classic crystal 40 L will work just fine.

I am fairly ok with the idea of using a different crystal malt, like a 40L. But I was really wanting to try to get as close as possible to the recipe by finding some Crystal 45.

Thanks for the link. I bet you are right. I am going to give that a try and see how the beer comes out. Will let you know as I am hoping to be able to do a side by side when my homebrewed version is done.
