I'm entering a southern brown and whatever I brew next. What do you guys think, a hoppy rye pale, or a milk chocolate stout?

Please don't construe this as shameless self promotion (that's more Jamil's thing  ). I'm only posting this because Chris_J asked and I figure others may have the same request.

I believe this is the commercial: http://samueladams.com/promotions/newsletter/2009_v.2/media/byob.mov

I haven't personally seen what's running on TV because I watch almost everything via DVR and skip the commercials (I get 22 minutes of my life back for every hour of TV).

That is the first time I've seen the box. That's pretty cool.

Every BNer should enter this year's Longshot.

As modest as ever. Thanks Tasty :jnj

I knew this was a great beer (the best I entered in the comp.). I was debating whether I should enter it in the American Brown category (10c) or as experimental (23) since it is bigger and hoppier than the guidelines suggest it should be. Looks like the judges did not think it was too over the top (I agree). I think I might have gotten somewhat lucky since they combined 10b and 10c to one flight and I assume the brown ales went later in the flight. I think this is more proof that the taste for bigger and hoppier American ales is not just limited to the west coast any more. I should hurry and bottle and brew some more of this beer since the keg will be empty soon.

My wife even really likes this beer, she usually does not care for bitter or hoppy beers. I was surprised when she asked for this beer over the porter and stout I also had on tap. It is very a very balanced beer for have so many hops. But, that should be expected from recipes from Tasty.

Thanks again for sharing this recipe Mike. :jnj

I hate I just noticed this thread!

I also entered a Janet's Brown Ale in the 2009 Peach State Brew Off and it took the blue ribbon in Specialty (Cat. 23) as an India Brown Ale!

That's some good recipe Tasty!

Actually it also took 3rd in the American Brown Ale category in that same comp (our entry) so you recipe really kicked ass in that comp with 3 ribbons

So, I see that you entered this beer as a 10C in the Brewmaster's Open. So, Janet's Brown Ale took first and second in 10C.

It is interesting I entered this beer in the Peach State Brew Off (February): scored around 40, 1st place. I entered in this in the 1st round of the Nationals (April): scored around 30, did not place. I entered this in the Brewmaster's Open (May): scored around 40, 1st place. Normally this would not be too weird, chalk it up to regional differences or something. But this year the 1st round of the Nationals was here, none of the same judges, but from a very similar "pool" of judges. It is interesting how the tastes of the judges can be so different. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that in the 2 comps were it did well, it was not judged in a flight with 10A it was at the nationals. I guess after have a few APAs you will be expecting something very different from he Browns than if you are on a flight of all Brown Ales.

Anyway, thanks again tasty.

(BTW Elbone, I also noticed you (I think it was you), did very well in this comp. 7 ribbons? Nice work.)
