Arrogant Bastard clone yeast?

Sun Dec 12, 2010 10:12 am

I don't have access to either of the liquid strains, wlp007 or Wyeast 1098, but I do have some Nottingham. The general profile of Nottingham seems pretty similar to the recommended strains. Has anybody used both of these yeasts in similar/same recipes? If so what was the difference?

Cheers,

Notty is a little drier but should do well for that beer.

If it is a little drier what do you think about increasing the mash temp from 148 to 150?

Thanks

Yes, that would be a good way to compensate. Maybe even go up to 152.

Brewed it today with Nottingham. Hit all my numbers but somehow had a higher boil off rate than I usually do, it was pretty cold today(high of 25) so I probably had the burner set a little to high to compensate for the outside temp. If it turns out anywhere near AB I will be really happy. I also upped the mash temp to 151.

Please post your results when it's ready.
I brewed it as well but used S-04. However I missed all my numbers big time, but hit my mash temps so clearly I had some other issues.

I will let you know how it turns out, mthhurley. I pitched the yeast 18 hours ago and the fermentor is going crazy already.

The AB clone came out really nicely. It is similar to AB but not the same. The bittering isn't quite as firm as Arrogant Bastard. It is also a little sweeter but I wonder if that is just due to the IBU difference. All in all it is really nice. I definitely will brew it again but with the right yeast next time and possibly up the sixty minute hop addition a little.
