Tis the Season

Sun Nov 14, 2010 9:28 pm

Yup, special holiday beers are upon us. The last couple of years I've been buying a few six packs, drinking one and laying down the rest in my cellar. I like to keep the 6 packs to $12 and under. The stinkers I've drank up, but I have a running library of Anchor Xmas, Lost Coast Winterbraun, Alaskan Winter Ale, and SN Celebration

Am I missing any holiday seasonal gems? I'm in California. I think I need to add velvet merlin from firestone.

Suggestions?

The Ridgeway Brewery (UK) Christmas beers are pretty excellent and are all nice for cellaring (I've never seen them in 6ers and some of the singles might cost $12 in California).

So after searching I think I may add Deschutes Jubelale to the cellar.

$12 a bottle is a bit steep for 5 bottles in my library.

Other ideas?

Bridgeport Ebenezer is pretty good. Maybe not the best for cellaring but worth a try and shouldn't break the bank (about $10 a sixer if I remember correctly).

Oh and just this evening I had a Rahr & Sons Winter Warmer that was quite nice; some chocolate and toffee notes. Not sure if they distribute all the way out to California though.

Odells and Avery also make winter seasonals; Isolation and Jubilee I think.

Just remembered I have a 2006 Samichlaus in the cellar. That sounds like New Years Eve libations. :D
