keg repair - leak at base of post

Picked up some used corny kegs. One of them, has a small leak around the base of the out post.

So, I'm thinking if I apply some type of sealant around the post maybe that will stop the leak.

Question is, what type of sealant should I use? Anyone have any luck doing something like this before to salvage a otherwise fine keg?

Worst case, I'll just use this as a Starsan holder for flushing lines and other kegs.

That sounds like a sanitation nightmare.

Let me ask the obvious question:

have you replaced the dip tube o-ring?

+1 for changing the tube o-ring and don't forget to lube them...

Yes - fresh o ring - and don't torque it down too tight, you can tear them and create leaks that way too.

O-ring is not the problem. Bubble test shows the leak is where the post goes into the top, black plastic part of the keg.

Wish it were that simple. There must be a crack at that point.

Sorry - I'm not familiar with plastic kegs, all of mine are stainless where the posts screw on.
