CO2 Reg Question

I'm getting ready to step into the grown up world of kegging. I'm looking at a bunch of systems and I see a variety of regulators. From the "economy" versions (Brew Logic from Midwest Supplies) to the "better" versions (Taprite from Keg Connection). Is that all smoke and mirrors or are you getting some really useful features for the extra $$$?

About the only "feature" you get in the higher end regulators as opposed to the bargain ones is a knob that you can adjust without needing a screwdriver or quarter. Other than that it's as with so many other things. You get a better build, more robust components... The gauge will probably be more accurate. The real question is do you get anything you need for the extra money. Perhaps less liklihood of failure and the ability to set pressure more accurately but it's not as if you need to set the pressure over your latest creation to within ± 0.02 psig.

Personally, I'd say it's worth spending a little extra to get a dual-gauge regulator. The high pressure gauge doesn't give you a whole lot of warning when you're about to run out, but it's better than no warning at all. Beyond that, I really doubt branding matters much.

I have a dual gauge and don't really disagree with you, but seriously are you disciplined enough to check it? I never know until I am out because I generally won't check in the fridge until I need a new keg.

I trolled craigslist for a couple of weeks before i got all of my kegging stuff and was able to accumulate 3 regulators for about 30 bucks total. you can buy a coupler on NB to make a dual gauge.

Buy cheap regulators and save your money for a second CO2 tank. Eventually you'll save money and sanity by completely finishing the CO2 tank instead of refilling it when it is "close".

Excellent, all great points that answer my question. Just get the darn thing filled up, carb'd and drink.
