You will need to CO2 setup as you have said you don't keg. Your priming sugar will carb the PET bottle no differently than a glass bottle.
I am a noob but there is no reason not do this right?
I see no benefit to buy CO2 equipment, what am I missing?
THANKS

No your not missing anything, however, you don't need a full on CO2 rig to do this. They make small CO2 chargers for use on the go. See link below for it and it costs between $15 and $20 most places (excluding cartridges).

Though you do have a good point about him not having kegging equipment.

The only problem with natural carb in a PET bottle is that you will shake up the sediment when you transport. Force carb w/ CO2 gives you sediment free beer for travel.
