Pink Nut

Sat May 08, 2010 9:17 am

My hex nut and tail piece turned bright pink! I was changing out my beverage line setup for a lower carbonation level and I left the bev tubing including the tailpiece and hex nut in a bucket of star san. I was under the impression they where stainless but I guess they are chrome plated. Should I be hesitant to use these again for dispensing? I am having touble getting all the pink shit off of them. Could I have stripped all the chrome off with the star san. They sat in the bucket for about 5 days. They look like the color of a copper chiller when it comes out of a pot of wort. Any cautionary tales or advice.

Yep, the Star San did indeed strip off the chrome plating. I used to have a pink faucet that had suffered the same fate. Palmer should be able to answer the question about long term contact of brass with finished beer. It works fine on the cold side of brewing but I don't know about the finished beer.

Your nuts are gay. You can either choose to accept them as they are or refuse to talk to them until you're on your death bed.

Sorry - couldn't believe no one pointed this out yet.
