I usually set the HLT at 170 and find the heat loss to be 1 or 2 deg. The auto sparge cycles pretty much as the float valve is pretty sensitive comes on off around 1/4 to 1/2 inch, so the water does not stay in the lines long, plus by adjusting the HLT outflow valve and recirculation valve I can adjust the flow into the mash tun at any speed I want, I found that if I set is slow and the outflow to the boil kettle slow it does not cycle as much.
