I was a little surprised by that too. I believe one of the requirements for hosting an NHC is to have an ample supply of hotel rooms available near the convention. It seems like they were not able to get enough rooms at the "connected" hotels to satify at least half of the attendees. In Philly, there were other hotels but they were all within a block and most were connected to the convention center.

It may have to do something with some influential people from MI getting the conference there without securing enough rooms so people don't have to stumble a mile away or take a shuttle early 10 miles out.

I just hope San Diego has a bigger block so this isn't the same thing next year.
