Was a great episode. I listened to it just today, a lot of beer culture was learned by me.

Also, I'm assuming the is the Skype picture of Mazen: http://www.libanvision.com/pub/Menajet_exec

And something more up to date from the weyermann website : http://www.weyermann.de/esp/news.asp?go ... 7&sprache=

Fierce Beard wrote:This was the most fun I've had listening in a while. Not only did Mazen have lots of unique and interesting beer/brewing info, but he also helped cleanse the palette of my world perspective by showing me how distorted my perception of Lebanon was. I like to think of myself as well-read and aware, but I realized during the interview that everything I know about Lebanon was learned 22 years ago in a 5th grade social studies class.

The picture that Mr. Hajjar painted of Muslims, Christians, and "pretty-much atheists" all identifying themselves as "Lebanese first" could be held up as a rubric to which the people in my local community ought to aspire. There is so much tension in central MN between a largely Muslim immigrant population and a largely evangelical Christian community that I rarely look through a local newspaper without reading an account of violence committed by one side against the other.

I know it was a joke question, and I laughed when I heard it, but when asked "who drinks more, the Christian or the Muslims?" Mr Hajjar dismissed the question. Not because he was offended, or a prude. It just wasn't answerable. Before they allow any doctrine or establishment divide them, they are united as Lebanese.

I know it's early, but this guy has my vote for guest of the year. He removed one of my blind spots. And he inspired me to brew beer that features ingredients unique to my region. And he was funny.

And God bless Evil Sam.....

Well stated Brotha!

I felt the same way, I thought Mazen was not only a wonderful guest with a great, clear Skype connection but one hell of an ambassador for Lebanon. I hate to admit that I am an ugly american but it's true. My lack of knowledge and culture causes me to cast unfair/unjust opinions of those in places that I can not relate to. I think it is brilliant that something as simple as beer can be the mechanism that enlightens me to the wonders of this far off land.

I too think Mazen would be a great in-studio guest!

Mazen, Cheers Brotha and thanks for opening my eyes to your beer, country and pure awesomeness.

Don't think I can add much to what's been said here thus far. I was listening to the 961 podcast on the commute into Boston this morning (still have more to go) and was thinking "this is the best interview they've had". Educational on multiple levels, with plenty of Session humor as well. I believe Mazen said that Massachusetts was one state they were looking to distribute. I will definitely pick it up as soon as it's available!

BTW, I pretty much felt like everyone else listening... "He's done ALL that and he's 38?! Are you kidding me?!" And yet I still was happy to listen. :asshat:
