Odd metallic flavour

Sun Dec 01, 2013 11:56 pm

Just tasted a oatmeal mild of mine that is about 14 days old and it has a faint metallic taste right on the tail end of it.
I have no idea what could be causing it and any advice and help would be appreciated.
Cheers

Probably demons. Or possibly an Australian snuck over and sabotaged your brew.

I think you might need to provide a bit more detail on the recipe/water/process to get anything useful from the forum... 8)

Was that taste straight out of the bottle or did you pour it in a glass first?

First off was poured into a glass
Recipie as follows;
Og: 1.038 fg:1.014
83% golden promise
6% toasted oats
6% chocolate malt
2.5% each pale chocolate and c - 120
69*C mash for 45 min and mash out+sparge as normal
60 min boil
25 Ibu EKG at 30 min
Wy1968
7 days at 19*C

No water treatments but have never had this issue in any of my other beers.
Also found out they had issues with their water up the street and they were switching the mains on and off the day before.
Shit.

Was talking to the better half about it and she said that they were doing that before brew day. They have had issues with water on the street we are currently on (we are moving in 4 weeks) so it has happened before but has never coincided with my brewing.

But, long windedness aside, probably a good wake up call to start playing with my water.

Now to choke down 18L+- of decent mild with an annoying after taste.

Cheers

I still vote demons. Screw the water sitting in the pipes. Definitely demons.
