On the other hand I am very fortunate. I had just gotten home from work and had left my work shoes at the front door. In other words I was in the garage in socks. I'm very lucky to have not gotten cut by broken glass or dropped the carboy on my foot. What a fucking mess!!!!

They're not supposed to be stitched down. They're designed for multiple sized carboys, so you can position the straps where you'd like them. It also makes it easier to get them on a full carboy with minimal disruption to the cake. Sorry about the beer, though, that sucks.

Regardless of the carboy size shouldn't the straps all cross up in the center? I understand the diameter changing, but shouldn't the center always be in the same place? I know the horizontal straps have to be adjusted and such due to different carboy sizes and shapes.

All of mine have come stitched where the straps meet underneath the carboy. I thought you meant two of them slid apart on the top ring. Did it come like that?

No, the straps are not stitched together where they cross under the carboy. I have two and neither of them are stitched together where they cross. I understand the vertical straps need to be able to move on the horizontal straps due to different carboy diameters.

I need to get some twine or something to hold the straps together in the center.

I too thought you meant the side straps... It sounds like you didn't actually have the 'center mass' centered under the carboy or that the side straps were so far slid around to the other side that they were folded over underneath. Mine all have a big 'star'(there are more than 5 staps...however many there are) pattern for the bottom where it is sewed together there.

I cant remember exactly when I bought them, but I am sure that they are less than 3 years old.
