Closed System to transfer

I received a comment from a Judge that my Helles was slightly oxidized. I transfer from my Carboy to the corney by forcing CO2 into the carboy using a hood with and racking cane. Similar the sterile siphon shown on B3, but just with CO2 at a low PSI. The only thing I can think is that I didn't purge the keg enough and it picked up O2 during the transfer stage or when I counter pressure filled the bottles. I cap on foam so who knows. I'm not going to put to much thought into it. It was just one comment.

But it got me thing to how I could do a closed system transfer. I thought it may be easy to go from the racking cane directly to the outlet side of the corney avoiding any opening of the keg. As long as the keg was sanitized and flushed with CO2, I'd be set. No oxidation or contamination.

Anybody have a set up like this? Got Pics?

that's what i do, racking cane -> ball lock on the liquid side. i'll take pictures the next time i keg, which should be this week or next. makes it much easier to purge the keg since you can sanitize it, then seal it up, then pressurize-purge-repeat.

I'd also like to see a picture of this whenever you get around to it.

I use the same method. O2 proof. Did it occur to you that the judge didn't know what they were talking about? Enter it again.

This is what I do:

I flush all of the tubing with CO2 including the keg. Works really nice.

Yes. Like I said, it was only one comment and only submitted it at one competition. He was nationally ranked though.

I have stainless racking cane with a 1/2" hose. My challenge is going from the 1/2" hose to 1/4" flared fitting. Any ideas?

I've seen adapters for going from hose barb to hose barb. Most likely they make one for 1/2"<->1/4".

calpyro - what is the piece of stainless hardware in the opening of the sanke? Did you build it yourself?

Nice! Is that a custom made setup?
