No Krausen

Tue Feb 12, 2008 3:51 am

OK, so this isn't my first batch of beer, what it is is the 2nd time I"ve made a starter. I made a 5gal batch of Jamil's Chocolate hazelnut porter from grain. Used the recommended English ale (wlp002), OG came out a little high at 1.070. Made a 1L starter that ran for about 24 hours, pitched. I was seeing activity within 3 hours, goin like mad the next day (2/10) and was already slowing on 2/11 untill this morning it's at like 7 sec intervals. The big question is I never got that thick layer of krausen on top. If it did anything it was maybe 1/8th in. I'm used to having to scrub off 3-4 in of the stuff. So, did anything go wrong? It doesn't smell like it's different or anything.
I suppose I just need someone to pat me on the back and tell me everything is OK, and that really God just wanted to make sure I didn't have to use any elbow grease. And while he's at it he could send me like 50 hot chicks that could be my harem... and my wife'd be OK with it.
Sorry it's like 4am...

Don't worry. I'm sure when you wake up you'll feel better about the world.

Beer is like a wild animal - you can't always predict exactly what it'll do next. That's why we enjoy it so much. It's hard to admire the perfectly predictable.

There, there, every thing's alright. That yeast ferments pretty quickly and drops really fast. 50 hot chicks? More than three will drive you bat shit. Three is good until they get their cycles synchronized.

Thank god... this is the first time this's happened. Good to know that I don't have to pitch the beer... well I'd probably suffer through it and drink it anyway, I mean it'd be alcohol abuse to get rid of it.

When I say 4 AM, it's not that I'll wake up later. I've gotta go to work. Sucks.

You guys are right on the 50 women... they need to live somewhere else so I can just visity :D

Thanks guys!
