Go into the archives and listen to the Sanitation series on BrewStrong, it will take away all your fears, well worth the time!

The Brew Strong interview is pretty good and I believe there is one with Charlie Talley on The Sunday Session from a couple years ago as well where they address this topic specifically. In the Session interview they discussed how one of the interviewers had mistakenly racked his wort into a carboy a quarter full of StarSan and Charlie said the beer would have been just fine. This incident was mentioned briefly in the Brew Stong interview as well. Apparently the added nutrition provided by the StarSan makes for quite a vigorous fermentation.

Thanks for all the advice and reassurance; I have listened to those shows, they're a great resource!
This has never happened to me before so I freaked; it seemed a huge breach of sanitation policy - good thing I use Starsan in the blowoff jar!
I'll prime it and see what happens after a few weeks in the bottle. Thanks again! :jnj

Well, we know the StarSan itself won't hurt and hopefully there wasn't much blowoff gunk in the jar with it. Anyway, whatever bacteria was in there should have been dead. It is a breach of sanitation but hopefully everything works out ok!

I'm feeling much better about the whole situation; the blow off jar didn't have any junk in it. It contained a pint of properly mixed Starsan - 1 oz to 5 gallons of DI water.
Thanks again for the response, suggestions and reassurance; glad to know the BN Army is out there ready to help!
