culturing prioritairy strains of yeast

I was reading that you can culture starters off of some micro brews by harvesting the cake in the bottom of their
bottles. In other words, I'm assuming that some breweries are using their own strains and since they don't pasturize,
the yeast is probably still viable for harvesting. Has anybody here tried that?

Many have done it... especially the commercial yeast labs :asshat: That is what has led many breweries to start filtering and then pitch a different (usually more neutral) strain for bottling that doesn't give the same character as their primary fermentation strain.
