What is that smell?

Sun Mar 01, 2009 7:10 am

So, I have my 2 lagers, lagering...been in there for a week at 35°. I open the freezer once a day to make sure they're not frozen (just in case). Well, the last couple days, it smells a little "rubbery" in there. I don't think it STINKS necessarily, just smells different.

These lagers are my first 2 and I'm fairly certain the smell is coming from the first AG, not the other one.

Is this something i should expect from Lagers? I'm not one to panic, I'm just curious. I do tend to get a little pissed though when the freezer occupation has kept me from brewing just to find out my batch is fucked... :unicornrainbow: :asshat:

Lagers always throw more sulphur compounds and so they STINK way bad compared to ales.

Thanks. Even while lagering? I was expecting it during fermentation. Just took me by surprise in 35° temps.

As long as it doesn't smell like my farts this morning you are probably OK. I can't even walk back in my room after 20 minutes.

I had a tasty medium rare burger last night, but I am paying the price! How's that for TMO!!!! :unicornrainbow:
