Abbey Ale

Sat Jan 07, 2006 6:43 pm

I just stumbled across this site recently (thanks to your friends and ours at Northern Brewer here in central Minnesota), and am really appreciating what I've found. I'm half of the team that brews inhouse for Saint John's Abbey (yes, we're actually monks) located in Collegeville --- right in the middle of the state.
My confrere just wrote an article about our Benedictines and Beer, which is available at http://www.saintjohnsabbey.org/AbbeyBanner/pdffiles/0503winter.pdf pg. 10.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Some of the best bread and jam I've ever had came from a monastery shop. I just wish I could remember the name and location. I'll look it up when I get home and let you know.

Happy Brewing

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.

bread and jam

if it was bread and jam, it was probably Trappists -- maybe Gethsamanee in Kentucky or St. Joseph's in Spencer, Mass. Sound familiar?

I can't find the stuff right now, but it was in the Upper Peninsula Michigan. Iron Peninsula maybe?
