Hey!
I'm new to the forums, but have been listening for a while now. Just wanted to introduce myself.
I'm Marcus. I'm from the Adirondack Park and am the assisstant Vintner for the first winery to make a wine from grapes grown in the Adirondacks. I'm professionally a winemaker, but have been studying, drinking, and brewing beer LONG before wine came into my life.
I also run the beer department of a local grocery store (Winter job. Wineries tend not to have work mid winter), and am a Cicerone Certified Beer Server. I'm going for my Certified Cicerone, hopefully, in about 4-6 months.
I'm big into brewing, but I do more dark lagers than anything else. Currently, I'm working on a rauchbier and high gravity maple wine, with the hopes of blending them.
I'm growing hops out back, but I tend to shy away from high alpha varieties. My area is very humid in the summer with LOTS of rainfall... meaning my area is much more suited to aromatic hops than it is to bittering hops. Currently, I'm growing Hallertau, Tettnang, Spalter Select (Spalter Spalt is hard to find), and Saaz.
