Re: So how many kegs does Gordon Strong have?

OK, I counted. They're all over the place, so I forgot about some of them. Looks like 28. Unless some are stashed elsewhere. Sometimes I have them stowed while waiting to be cleaned. I don't have a cellar but I do have a 6x6x6 walk-in.

I knew this guy who worked in a hospital and could get kegs that had held nothing but distilled water. The kegs had something coming out of them marked "Level Sense" and had a cable with a TRS (audio jack) connector coming out of it. People kept looking at my kegs and wondering WTF that was. I kept telling them, "what, you don't have one of those? tsk, tsk. how else do you monitor your beer?" I was going to take them out, but it's such a psych that I kept them there.

The cool thing? I got most of them for $5 each. And didn't have to PBW them, replace rings, etc. Just sanitized and go.

Nice avatars, guys.

Hey Gordon,

Do you worry or have any issues w/ oxidation while storing beer in the 1/2L bottles for extended periods of time?

No. I either squeeze the air out of the bottles so there's no headspace, or I put a carbonator cap on it and carbonate it. Sometimes I do the carbonator thing, then switch caps after it's chilled.

Hmm I only live about an hour away on US-68. Maybe somebody close should come over to verify the situation and check out the beer!

Did you build this walk in yourself using insulation and an air conditioner or some other method?

I like the idea but curious how to pull it off.

And congrats on your Ninkasi Award. Very impressive.

PS I Love the idea of a BNA5 - NHC combo next year. If I can help from New England, I am willing to pitch in. The donate idea just for BNA5 is also workable to me.

I bought my walk-in on eBay. It was built new from some place in Florida (Mr. Winter, I think). The panels were fabricated by the company and the compresser drop-shipped from the factory. Some homebrew pals helped me put it together on site. IIRC, I thanked them with 1987 JW Lees (this was maybe 7 years ago).
