Gonna be a good weekend

Fri Mar 23, 2012 7:45 am

Really looking forward to this weekend. On Saturday the Peach State Brew Off is happening at the Wrecking Bar Brewpub in Little Five Points. I've got six entries and am really looking forward to good beer, good food and hanging out with a bunch of home brewers. On Sunday the Athens Craft Beer Competition is happening at the Trappeze Pub in Athens. Never been there, but I've got four entries into this competition and am looking forward to checking out the pub and hanging out in Athens. The prizes to first and second place best of show are pro-am beers with Terrapin and Wild Heaven!

Gonna be a great weekend. The only question...to work Monday or not?

At the PSBO I took bronze in RIS, silver in Kolsch, and Silver in IIPA. Pretty happy with that. Competition had 420 entries and I entered six. Now trying to recover from the celebrating and get geared up for Athens tonight.

Congrats! I love comps with prizes of being able to brew on a commercial system. Always makes it a bit more exciting for me!

Took best of show with the RIS. A score of 47, which I feel is ridiculously high, but hell I'll take it. Sweet! Pro am coming up.

Frickin' awesome!

Did Phil the Chicken Man sit on the BOS panel? You know you got a good evaluation if he was in on it.

Best score I ever gave was a 49 on a Kolsch (judged with Tavish2) a few years ago.
I was still a pretty new judge at the time, and Tavish was still a Novice back then (he's now a National). My hand was nervous giving out that score, but I was really happy when the beer ended up taking BOS. It was a great beer, well deserving of BOS. But it sure felt good that it held up. Nothing would have been worse than to give a guy a 49 and have it LOSE in the BOS round.
