FTP & FileZilla

Mon Sep 26, 2011 8:14 am

I built a new web site in Office Publisher to replace my current ancient web site. Publisher has a "Publish to the web" function, that doesn't work and after looking around a little bit, the consensus seems to be to use FTP to upload new web site files. So I downloaded FileZilla and spent mnay hours yesterday trying to get the new files on my web site. I think I figured out how to transfer the files successfully, but to where? The "Remote Site" that FileZilla shows is simply called "/". Do I need to specify a different target? Not sure what I've been doing wrong. All the YouTube tutorials I've watched are of little help. Any tips or instructions? Thanks.

ftp into your server. if the directory tree is /, send the files. if you see public_www or public_html you need to place the files in that folder. most publishing apps do this and you only need to tell it http://www.server.com or ftp.server.com and user/pass. is this MS publisher?? it might need frontpage server extensions to be installed. do you have frontpage in your office suite, if so, make a very simple index.html and publish to see what happens.

What mordantly said, the / represents the root directory or home directory, usually you will have public html folder or you can place an index.html, index.php or .asp or what you have... but you could also upload anything.html and just browse to http://yourwebsite.tld/anything.html :)

I must be a fuckin' retard, 'cause I haven't been able to make any of this work. I can't even find the where Publisher is sending the HTML files. I'll keep trying.
