I was told by a woman who smoked for years that if you get a baby food jar (or a white labs vile) and fill it half way with water then throw a couple of fresh cigarette butts in there. Then when you have a craving, open it up and take a big whiff. Makes you want to puke and you quickly associate smoking with that nasty ass smell.

I had really good results with Chantix. It's not for everyone though - made my wife completely crazy.

I'm 4 years smoke free next month. :jnj

I quit this last January (posted in that other thread, and it actually helped that I knew a couple of BNers were going through the same thing.)

I'd like to recommend a method I call baked turkey. Buy a big-ass bag of really good cousin. Seriously, spare no expense. For three days, substitute cousin for cigarettes. After three days, the worst of the withdrawals are over, and you just kinda put the cousin down (it's a lot easier than putting down smokes for me.) I tried everything, but for some reason the cousin worked for me. I know it sounds stupid, but eight months later almost, and I haven't had a craving.

I'm with whoever said "I used to smell like that?" That helps. As well as just deciding "I am not a smoker anymore."

Crack may also help, though I have done no research to that effect.

I smoked a pack a day for five years until 10 years ago. I found myself digging through my nasty car ashtray for butts to smoke and I thought, " This is disgusting." I chewed nicorette and carried a pen to keep my hands busy but I quit. It helped to have friends that smoked and tried to quit and couldn't  Then I just had to prove I could do better than they could. They would offer me cigarettes but I couldn't have them because I quit. I had to recognize certain times of the day were tougher, like first thing in the morning with coffee but I did it.

Did the real test last night. A cooler full of beer, poker, and some buddies. They smoked and I didn't!

My lung collapsed 6 yrs. ago, the Dr. said it would happen again if I didn't quit smoking. It really fucking hurt, and spending 5 days in the hospital sucked, so I didn't smoke again. My last cigarette was at 9:15AM 5/19/2005, and I miss the damn things every fucking day.
I'm glad I quit though, my health is bad enough without smoking adding to it. Good luck bro!
